Denis Charles Pratt Wiki: Salary, Married, Wedding, Spouse, Family

Quentin Crisp (born Denis Charles Pratt, (1908-12-25)25 December 1908 – 21 November 1999(1999-11-21)) was an English writer and raconteur. From a conventional suburban background, Crisp grew up with effeminate tendencies, which he flaunted by parading the streets in make-up and painted nails, and working as a rent-boy. He then spent thirty years as a professional model for life-classes in art colleges. The interviews he gave about his unusual life attracted increasing public curiosity, and he was soon sought-after for his highly individual views on social manners and the cultivating of style. His one-man stage show was a long-running hit, both in England and America, and he also appeared in films and on TV. Crisp defied convention by criticising both gay liberation and Diana, Princess of Wales.

1Life is a disease for which movies are a cure.
2[on "Swann in Love"] Mr. Proust was a wierdo who, although Jewish, was determined to slither like a snake through French society, and who, though (suffering) from nervous disorders, insisted on drinking coffee.
3If I have any ambition, other than to be a chronic invalid, is to meet everybody in the world before I die. And I'm not doing badly.
4John Hurt is my representative here on Earth.
5[when asked if he had any speaking engagements planned for his 100th birthday] "I should hope I'll be dead by then."
6Never keep up with the Joneses; drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.
7Of course I lie to people. But I lie altruistically - for our mutual good. The lie is the basic building block of good manners. That may seem mildly shocking to a moralist - but then what isn't?
8An autobiography is an obituary in serial form with the last chapter missing.
9There was no need to do any housework at all. After the first four years the dirt doesn't get any worse.

1He was chosen by Channel Four to deliver the first "Alternative Christmas Speech", a counterpoint to the Queen's Christmas speech, in 1993. The Alternative Christmas Speech has been delivered every year since, by among others, cartoon character Marge Simpson.
2Thomas Massengale, director of the indie production Topsy and Bunker: The Cat Killers (1992), said that Crisp - who played the doorman at a fleabag hotel in a rundown New York City neighborhood quite like his own Bowery neighborhood - was delightful to work with.
3After his death in the Manchester, England suburb Chorlton-cum-Hardy, he was cremated and his ashes were flown back to the United States and scattered over New York City.
4Was portrayed to great acclaim by Leon Acord in the 2002 San Francisco stage comedy "Carved in Stone," written by Jeffrey Hartgraves, performed at the Eureka Theatre.
5Crisp was the role model (and appears in the music video) for Sting's 1988 single "Englishman in New York", which includes the lyric "be yourself no matter what they say". Sting described Crisp in an interview as "one of the most courageous men I've ever met". He and Sting worked together in The Bride (1985). John Hurt portrays Crisp in An Englishman in New York (2009), a biographical movie about his life.
6A distant relation of Boris Karloff (born William Henry Pratt).
